Nearly 200 people evacuated after an emergency landing in Valencia. Dense smoke appeared in the passenger cabin
According to The Guardian , three people were transported to the hospital with suspected smoke poisoning. All the victims received help and were already discharged home. A moment after the event, photos and recordings appeared on social networks, showing the level of smoke of the plane. Spanish sports journalist Dani Moreno Bori reported that passengers had to leave the deck using the emergency slides. The journalist also criticized the deck staff for the lack of information and ignoring the passengers whose smoke caused a panic attack.
One of Gayle Fitzpatrick's passengers portrayed the incident as follows: "It was frightening. The flight was coming to an end when suddenly the smoke began to fill the cabin, and the plane began to drop rapidly. The crew put on oxygen masks and protective clothing, which additionally caused panic among the travelers. The staff stayed with the door for a long time, and when they finally opened it, they ordered us to slide down the emergency slides. After five hours we waited for any information and luggage.
According to a British Airways statement, the smoke of the cabin was associated with a technical failure: - Flight BA422 from Heathrow to Valencia encountered a technical problem during the approach to land in Spain. All passengers were safely evacuated by our crew. Airport rescue services also helped them. There were 175 passengers on board, six cabin crew members and two pilots.
